Should I keep my old countertops with new cabinets?

For kitchen remodels By Pat Lindqvist Updated

Sometimes you can keep them, but often it isn't worth the risk. Countertops sit on the cabinets, so taking the old cabinets out usually means lifting the tops, and stone or laminate can crack when it moves.

When keeping them can work

If the new cabinets match the old layout exactly and the tops are in good shape, it can be worth a try. We look at this at the design visit, where we measure the room and draw the layout.

When to replace them too

If the layout changes, or the tops are worn, new tops usually make more sense. Ask at the design visit and we will tell you plainly.
